| ITINERARY: Day One: Okanagan to Richland (Tri-Cities, Wa.) Your journey begins today as we travel south through the Okanagan, crossing the border at Osoyoos into Washington. Travelling through the fertile farmland & bountiful vineyards of central Washington arrive in Richland for your first night stay at the full-service Shilo Inn, located on the shores of the majestic Columbia River and close to miles of walking paths & trails.
Day Two: Richland to Portland, Oregon * Full Hot Breakfast & Lunch Following a hearty breakfast, continue the journey into Oregon. Following the route of the magnificent Columbia River, experience the soul of the grand river of the west as it cuts a path towards the Pacific Ocean. Designated as a National Scenic Area, the Columbia River Gorge offers spectacular scenery, lush greenery and cascading waterfalls. The Columbia River Gorge Discovery Center offers a look into this fascinating natural wonder, then continue along the scenic byway to Multnomah Falls. This historic lodge, built in 1925 offers the finest of Pacific Northwest cuisine and is surrounded by panoramic views of the spectacular Multnomah Falls - Oregon's tallest cataract and the U.S.'s 2nd highest year-round waterfall. Arrive in Portland and overnight at the Fairfield Inn & Suites.
Day Three: Portland to Yachats, Oregon * Hot Breakfast Experience one of the most scenic drives in North America as we travel Hwy 101 south along the Oregon Coast. Arrive at the historic Newport Bayfront and stroll the boardwalk lined with shops, galleries and restaurants featuring the fresh "catch of the day". Following lunch, board the 65' M.S. Discovery for a 2 hour marine and wildlife boat cruise where you will be entertained and educated by a team of friendly naturalist guides. Activities include hauling crab traps, viewing sea life, driving with the Captain and munching on the Discovery's famous Shrimp Salsa. Arrive early this afternoon at the beautiful Adobe Resort in Yachats. Situated on the edge of the rocky Oregon coastline, the Adobe offers oceanview rooms and full-service restaurant and lounge where you can dine while enjoying panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
Day Four: Yachats to Eureka, California Begin the day with a visit to the Oregon Connection. Formerly known as the House of Myrtlewood, where myrtlewood logs are used to manufacture various products, including kitchen items, bowls and grandfather clocks just to name a few. Continue south into the golden state of California and enter the Redwood National Forest home to the world's tallest living trees. The trees are so tall that the sun seldom hits the ground! Visit a giant redwood known as the Big Tree before arriving in Eureka, the largest city on the California North Coast with over 100 preserved Victorian-era homes. After a picture stop at the historic Carson Mansion, settle in for the night at the Best Western Humboldt Bay Inn.
Day Five: Eureka - Sacramento, California * Continental Breakfast & Dinner Depart Eureka for the Avenue of the Giants. This magnificent scenic drive is sure to be a highlight, as you travel among giant redwoods, many between 600 and 1200 years old that tower above the ground. Leave behind the mystical redwoods and enter California's northern wine country, which produces not only some of the world's finest wines, but is also on of the state's most scenic regions. Arrive into Sacramento and settle in at the Vagabond Inn, chosen for its great location and proximity to shopping, restaurants and Old Town Sacramento. Enjoy a delicious dinner onboard the Delta King Paddlewheeler this evening. Though the Delta King no longer cruises, this beautifully restored 1920's era riverboat provides the perfect backdrop for an evening getaway.
Day Six: Sacramento - Monterey *Continental Breakfast & Lunch Bid farewell to California's State Capital and travel south through Silicon Valley arriving at the famous Winchester Mystery House for an indepth tour. Construction on this 160 room Victorian Mansion began in 1884 and continued virtually nonstop for the next 38 years. It is an architectural marvel filled with many unexplained oddities; you will be impressed by the creativity, energy and expense poured into every detail. This afternoon arrive into the spectacular coastal community of Monterey. Explore this picturesque village on your own as many of the town's attractions are located within walking distance of the hotel. Unpack for 2 nights at the beautiful Mariposa Inn & Suites.
Day Seven: Salinas * Expanded Continental Breakfast Join us today for an agricultural education tour of the Salinas Valley, otherwise known as the "Salad Bowl of the World". We are joined by an expert guide who will describe the wide variety of field activities and fresh vegetable crops that the Valley is famous for. Prepare to be amazed by the diversity and advanced farming that makes Monterey County the number one vegetable growing region in the world. Salinas is the childhood home of famous author John Steinbeck. This afternoon we visit the National Steinbeck Center, dedicated to the Nobel Prize winning author. Some of his famous works include 'East of Eden', 'Cannery Row' and the 'Grapes of Wrath'. Return to Monterey for the remainder of the afternoon and your final night in this majestic town.
Day Eight: Monterey to San Francisco * Expanded Continental Breakfast Enjoy the Monterey Peninsula through the eyes of a local naturalist and historian guide as she enhances your visit to one of the most scenic areas on the Pacific Coast. Begin with a visit to the world-famous Monterey Aquarium with over 500 species and a million gallon fish tank! Following lunch and shopping at nearby Cannery Row, travel one of the most spectacular drives in the world - 17 Mile Drive. A meeting between land and sea, the drive winds its way through the seaside communities of Pacific Grove Pebble Beach, home of the legendary golf course of the same name and Carmel-by-the-Sea. Anticipated stops include Bird Rock, Lone Cypress (a 200 - 300 year old cypress tree) and the lodge at the Pebble Beach. Taking the coastal route we arrive late this afternoon into San Franciso. Settle in for the next 3 nights at the Holiday Inn, a full service hotel conveniently located on Fisherman's Wharf.
Day Nine: San Francisco * Chinese Dinner 'I left my heart in San Francisco' will be the theme today as you tour one of the best-loved cities in the world. The city tour hosted by a local San Francisco tour guide will include many of the city's famous landmarks such as Telegraph Hill, Union Square, Russian Hill, the Nob Hill mansions and more. Later this afternoon relax on a harbor bay cruise that sails right under the Golden Gate Bridge and around the infamous island of Alcatraz. The rest of the afternoon is spent exploring the many sights and sounds of Fisherman's Wharf at your leisure. This evening visit Chinatown - where more people live in this 'city-in-a-city' than any other place in the world other than China. Enjoy an authentic Chinese dinner at a local restaurant.
Day Ten: San Francisco Enjoy a free day to explore San Francisco on your own. Visit nearby Cannery Row and Ghiradelli Square, once home, to a world-famous chocolate factory, now an open air center filled with specialty shops and restaurants; visit 'The Rock', only accessible by boat and see where such infamous criminals as Machine Gun Kelly, Al Capone and Robert 'Birdman' Stroud were incarcerated. Hop the cable car to Union Square for a memorable ride; take a stroll down Lombard Street, known as the crookedest street in the world or climb to the top of Coit Tower where the view spans 360 degrees. The choices are endless; enjoy all the wonders this beautiful city has to offer!
Day Eleven: San Franciso to Klamath Falls, Oregon This morning bid farewell to the beautiful City by the Bay as we cross over the Bay Bridge enroute to our first stop of the day at the famous Jelly Belly Factory. Satisfy your sweet tooth craving while learning the secrets on how they create the legendary Jelly Belly bean and discover why it takes more than a week to make a single bean. Continuing north, take in the beautiful surroundings of Shasta Country including the blue-green waters of Shasta Lake. Overnight in Klamath Falls at the Shilo Inn, overlooking the Cascade Mountain Range and Klamath Lake.
Day Twelve: Klamath Falls to Yakima, Washington * Continental Breakfast We depart travelling through the Klamath Basin rich with shimmering lakes, vast deserts, lush forest and snowpeaked mountains and into the high desert of Central Oregon. Crossing back over the Columbia Gorge, enter Washington following the scenic byway into Yakima. Overnight at the Red Lion Hotel.
Day Thirteen: Yakima to the Okanagan * Continental Breakfast The last leg of our journey begins as we travel through the fertile farmland and bountiful vineyards of central Washington. The Bavarian village of Leavenworh provides the backdrop for our first stop. Explore the quaint shops and enjoy some true German fare before we make our final stop in the US at the Duty-free store.
