ITINERARY
Day One: Okanagan / Kamloops to Wallace, Idaho *Welcome Reception
Journey through the great western state of Washington with time to relax, enjoy the scenery & get-acquainted with fellow passengers. Stops include the Duty Free Shop, lunch in Omak & coffee in Airway Heights. Follow the Interstate through Spokane & Coeur d’Alene into Wallace, Idaho; known as the ‘Silver Capital of the World’. A "Welcome Reception’ hosted by Wallace’s very own ‘Prime Minister’ is planned for our arrival at the Wallace Inn. Enjoy the facilities this evening.
Day Two: Wallace, Idaho to West Yellowstone, Montana
Leaving the scenic splendor of Northern Idaho, travel through the early gold mining areas of Montana and past the Lady of the Rockies on the Continental Divide in Butte. View Montana’s glorious past during a visit to Montana’s oldest city; Virginia City, dating back to 1863. Virginia City was once a mining camp of the “boomtown” era & Territorial Capital of Montana. Continue through Madison Valley to the Madison River Canyon Earthquake area & then into West Yellowstone for an evening of relaxation or take a scenic stroll along Canyon Street.
Day Three: Yellowstone to Cody Wyoming *Hot Breakfast & Welcome Reception
Yellowstone National Park was established as the world’s first national park in 1872 & is also one of the most successful wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Our first stop is the Imax Theater for a 45 minute presentation on a six story screen of the history & grandeur of Yellowstone. Then enter the state of Wyoming & Yellowstone National Park for a day of natural wonders. Observe colored mud boil at the Fountain Paint Pots then watch the magnificent eruption of Old Faithful Geyser. Lasting 1 - 5 minutes, up to 8,400 gallons of boiling water rises up to 184'. Cross the continental divide to the most scenic area in the park. West Thumb Geyser Basin is noted for its location along Yellowstone Lake; the largest North American lake above the 7000' elevation. Visit Abyss Pool, the Fishing Cone & the West Thumb Paint Pots. Our fabulous day continues as we travel the most scenic 50 miles in North America; the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway as it follows the Shoshone River through Wapita Valley into Cody, Wyoming.
Day Four: Cody, Wyoming * Deluxe Breakfast
Experience a special day in the city named after Col William F. Cody. Visit the Buffalo Bill Dam, which was the largest dam in the world. Below the reservoir is the magnificent Shoshone Canyon. Once called 'Old Cody' as it was the original town site that was surveyed by Buffalo Bill in 1895, Old Trail Town is the largest collection of historic buildings & western artifacts in Wyoming. Visit the grave site of 'Jeremiah' Johnson & the cabin used as a hide-out for the Sundance Kid & the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Then come face-to-face with the Wild West at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. This international acclaimed museum includes the Buffalo Bill Museum, Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Plains Indian Museum, Cody Firearms Museum & the Draper Museum of Natural History. Enjoy a fabulous evening of entertainment by the famous Dan Miller & his 'Empty Saddles Band' at the historic Cody Theatre. This toe-tappin Cowboy Music Revue has been featured in USA Today & filmed for ESPN & the Travel Channel. Return to the hotel following this truly world class live theatre experience.
Day Five: Cody to Deadwood, South Dakota * Deluxe Breakfast, Appetizers & Dinner Voucher
Our scenic tour continues along the Big Horn Scenic Byway to Shell Canyon, which was formed over 550 million years ago by the erosion of Shell Creek. Feel the thundering sensation as Shell Creek tumbles 120' at a rate of some 3,600 gallons per second at Shell Falls. Ascend the Big Horn Mountains over Granite Pass with world-class views as we descend into Sheridan Valley & through the rolling Great Plains into historic Deadwood, South Dakota. Day Six: Deadwood * Breakfast Buffet, Appetizers & Dinner Voucher
A free day to enjoy Deadwood, the largest historic preservation project in the world, making it a National Historic Landmark. Ride the replica San Francisco Trolley along Historic Main Street, then visit Saloon #10, site of the fatal shooting of Wild Bill Hickok & deemed the most famous 'watering hole' in the West. Visit the historic 1903 Franklin Hotel, once the most premier hotel between St. Louis & San Francisco. Don't miss the Adams Museum, Black Hills Mining Museum, Car Museum, the 1925 Fairmont Hotel & the Bullock Hotel to name a few. Try your luck in over 80 casinos then return to the hotel for hot appetizers & cocktails to end a perfect day. Day Seven: Tour of the Black Hills * Breakfast & Appetizers
Don’t forget your camera as we journey into the Black Hills to the oldest existing city of Hill City. Board one of the America's last steam trains still in service. The 1880 Train features an old Baldwin steam locomotive & 19th century coaches. This famous train was used in the filming of the 'Gunsmoke' series & the TV movie 'Orphan Train'. Your 1 hour excursion to Keystone follows a scenic route that miners & pioneers once used. Spend some time in the historic mining town of Keystone then board our coach for the magnificent Mount Rushmore. Fourteen years in the making at a cost of only $1 Million, Mount Rushmore towers 5,500 feet above sea level. Our next stop is Chief Crazy Horse Monument, the world's largest mountain carving-in-the-making. Once completed, this colossal carving will stand 563 feet high & 641 feet long. Our full day of Black Hills scenery concludes once again at the First Gold Hotel for appetizers & 'good cheer'.
Day Eight: Deadwood * Breakfast, Buffet Lunch & Appetizers
Just a short drive to the 'Mile High' city of Lead & the Homestake Gold Mine, once the largest operating underground gold mine in the Western Hemisphere. The step back in time at the Black Hills Ft. Pierre Railroad Roundhouse. Originally built in 1901, the facility has undergone a $2 million restoration that has captured the historic elegance of the Victorian era. Enjoy the 'Living Map Theater' presentation, visit the gift shops & enjoy a fabulous lunch buffet in the Roundhouse Restaurant. Return to Deadwood for a free afternoon which might include the Deadwood Historic Walking tour, attend the 3:00 pm re-enactment of the Wild Bill Hickok shooting in Saloon #10 then board the Mount Moriah tour bus (fare not included) from Saloon #10. Popularly known as 'Boot Hill' Mt. Moriah Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark & final resting place of gunman Wild Bill Hickok & notorious Calamity Jane. Enjoy Deadwood's unique historic architecture & take the time to look up & around as history surrounds you. Whatever your activity, enjoy your final day in Deadwood.
Day Nine: Deadwood to Billings, Montana * Breakfast & Welcome Reception
Farewell to Deadwood as we return to Wyoming through Gillette and Sheridan, then follow the Bozeman Trail through the Crow Reserve into Billings, Montana. Visit Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, where Lt. Col. George Custer & the 7th Cavalry Regiment made their last stand against thousands of Lakota, Cheyenne & Arapaho warriors in 1876. View the film presentation then visit the museum, Custer National Cemetery & the 7th Cavalry Memorial. A 'Welcome Reception' awaits our arrival in Billings.
Day Ten: Billings to Wallace, Idaho **Hot Breakfast & Farewell Dinner
Follow the Yellowstone River through the 'Treasure State' of Montana; with stops in Bozeman, Butte & Missoula. We then ascend Lookout Pass of the Bitterroot Range into Idaho & the National Historical town of Wallace for our final night & Farewell dinner.
Day Eleven: Wallace to Kamloops / Okanagan *Continental Breakfast
